Arequipa :: Chachani Summit ::
Eight hours later, I reach the 20,000 feet summit of Chachani. I have forgotten all about the useless ice hanging from my back and the seriousness of being dehydrated. Instead, I tie a beaded strand to the crowning cross and smile for my summit photo. I am still eight hours away from water at this time and another seven to truly cure my ailment: The heart of Arequipa, which rests at a lovely 8,000 feet.
